World AIDS Day 2021 Bahria International Hospital, Orchard Lahore: End Inequalities, End AIDS, End Pandemics


Bahria International Hospital, Orchard Lahore has organized World AIDS Day 2021 on December 1, 2021 to support World Health Organization (WHO) theme “End Inequalities, End AIDS, End Pandemics.

A conference was conducted on HIV/AIDS awareness and Prevention which was chaired by Maj. General (R) Prof. Dr. Iftikhar Ahmed Chief Operating Officer Bahria International Hospital, Orchard Lahore. The speakers highlighted the urgent need to end the inequalities by educating staff for improving their attitude towards HIV/AIDS patients meaning; no discrimination between HIV/AIDS patients and other patients. Education material displayed were, possible modes of transmission, high risk communities for HIV and preventive measures. All participants were provided inverted “V” ribbon, a symbol of World AIDS Day participation. Stage show explaining HIV is not transmitted by shaking hands, hugging and eating with HIV patient. Free HIV Testing was offered during World AIDS Day. Dr. Saqib Saleem Consultant Internal Medicine and Medical Director reminded staff on No recapping of needles.

Baheria International Hospital has developed SOPs for prevention of HIV like 100% screening of blood and blood components before transfusion, 100% staff screening for HIV, excellent program on needles and other sharp disposal policies, excellent medical waste program to get 0% chance of recycling of medical waste and excellent policy for provision of antiretroviral treatment within 2 hours to any staff who is pricked by HIV+/AIDS.
